Little Red Monkey

Produced By George Martin

Artists: Joy Nichols,  Dick Bentley, Jimmy Edwards

Released on Parlophone in 1953

The song was used on the 50's BBC Radio Show 'Take It From Here'.

It has been suggested on many ocassions that this recording was made using a Maestrovox. Having spoken with George Martin, he is fairly certain that a Clavinola was used

The sounds on both were of course very similar!

Little Red Monkey is currently available on George Martins 6 CD Box Set entitled 50 Years in Recording.

There is also this version by Ken Griffin also 1953 but on Phillips, this appears to have another organ which I doubt is a Maestrovox!

The band 'This Heat' used the Maestrovox on all their albums and for live performances. The band were together from 1975 to 1981 and all their albums have recently been made available as a boxed set.

Follow the link below to a page entitled 'Out of Cold Storage' at Warped Reality Magazine, here you will find information on the band and two 'This Heat' free MP3's of the tracks '24 Track Loop' and 'Repeat' featuring Charles Hayward's Maestrovox Consort.

You'll also find an interview with Charles who played the Maestrovox & other keyboards plus Drums with the band.

Charles Hayward has kindly given me a detailed account of his experiences with the Maestrovox Consort he used in 'This Heat', it is extremely interesting and I reccomend you read it, use the link below :-
